Erasing the Stigma of Psychological Sickness.
Why does an humiliation or stigma still exist related to those that are looking for psychiatric treatment? Why do folk wait so long before come for help - to the point of becoming just about non-functional with their families, kids and work environment? Can somebody "Be Strong" and make their diabetes or bronchitis just go away? These kinds of ideas only result in a delay in looking for treatment or feelings of failure in the individual who eventually does find help. Actually money and work issues, relationship and family issues, and sickness and loss of family and friends are major contributors to stress and depression. Here's a fab link about separation anxiety. If we know how the social stigma was established in the 1st place - the media shortage of medical data, societies' understanding or stupidity, for example. "Let's wipe out the term "mental illness" and view lots of these conditions as "neurochemical illness," with the same non-prejudicial angle as we do toward diseases like diabetes or hypertension.
